In addition, our teachers are empowered to manage, track, and engage students through our student information system called Virtual School Administrator (VSA). Our teachers love that they can communicate one-on-one with each of their students. Once teachers are used to the differences, they are excited to see that the skills that made them excel in the traditional classroom continue to serve them well online.Įffective methods of communication are paramount to ensure the success of our students. However, in the end, good teaching, whether in a traditional or an online classroom, revolves around building relationships with students. In addition, we have created a mentor program where we pair experienced teachers with new ones to give them guidance and assist them with questions as they learn new systems and processes. To ensure new teachers succeed from the onset, we’re devoted to a comprehensive and intentional onboarding and training program. Like with any new job, teaching online for the first time has a learning curve. New online teachers are likely to face many unfamiliar systems and teaching methods. Teaching in an online environment can seem challenging as it requires each teacher to change and grow. As educators, we are driven to empower students, regardless of our students’ specific challenges or ability levels. FLVS employs more than 2,400 teachers, each of whom is passionate about helping students succeed. One of the most exciting parts of working with the Florida Virtual School (FLVS) is how devoted everyone is to student success. By: Melissa Kelly, Instructional Strategies Coach
